Amelia (Millie) was born in Mountain View, California, to Manuel and Rose (Cardoza) Medina. She was the fourth child of 10 children. Amelia married Joseph (Joe) Vargas in 1958. They were married for 64 years until Joe passed away in 2022. Millie loved her close family; including brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and, of course, her own children.
Millie and Joe had four sons, Joe (and his wife Brandie), Mark (and his wife Kerry), Dean (and his wife Vicki) and Jim (and his wife Pam). She loved keeping in contact with all of them and enjoyed family functions where the whole family gets together. As with most Portuguese mothers and grandmothers, she had great talents in the kitchen and was often cooking soups or other dishes to keep everyone well fed.
Millie loved her sons and daughter-in-laws, and she absolutely cherished and was very close with her 12 grandchildren. In recent years she also got to experience the joy of watching her grandkids give her 10 great grandchildren, plus, she knew about one more in the oven she did not get to meet.
The Oregon coast was one of her favorite places to visit. She enjoyed the coastal weather and loved listening and relaxing to the waves hitting the shore. She will be missed, and she will forever remain in our hearts. She passed peacefully at her home with her family by her side. We love you.
In lieu of flowers, please visit the Oregon coast at some point; watch and listen to the waves for a couple of minutes and think of Millie.
