Arthur A. Wechlo passed away January 17, 2008, at his home, in Medford, surrounded by his wife, family and friends of many years who dearly loved him.
He was born January 3, 1946 in Los Angeles, Calif., and grew up in Orland, Calif. He attended Shasta College and Santa Rosa Jr. College, married and raised a daughter.
He owned and operated Gold Star Dental Laboratory for many years in Santa Rosa, relocated to Ashland in 1987 and retired the business in 2004.
He served in the U.S. Army, was wounded in Viet Nam, where he was awarded a Purple Heart and the Bronze Star with the "V" Device for heroism.
He was an honorable, patriotic man who deeply loved his country, his family and his friends.
He was a truely unique and gentle soul who loved people. Everyone who really knew him, loved him deeply.
Allan was known for his intelligence and wit, great sense of humor, variety of interests and wide knowledge of the arcane. He had many talents and skills and had profound zeal for life. He worked with his hands and his mind creating the most beautiful handcrafted art and tools, in wood, metal, leather, or horn.
He was a historian, a gifted storyteller and a published writer.
Allan is survived by his wife, Ann, of 37 years; daughter, Jennifer; grandson, Bradley; his mother, Barbara Jean Wechlo; and sister, Barbara Satterfield (John).
He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Lewis Wechlo.
A memorial service with full military honors will be held Friday, February 8, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at Memory Gardens Memorial Park, 1395 Arnold Lane, Medford. Officiating the services will be the Rev. Josiane Antonette of Mt. Shasta, Calif.
Inurnment will be at the V.A. National Cemetary in Eagle Point.
