Betsy Rae Smith, age 92, transitioned peacefully from this life-time on April 12th, 2023 in the presence of her brother and sister, her grand-daughter and great-great-grandson. Betsy was living in Stevenson, Washington.

Betsy was born July 5, 1931 in Aliksha, Oklahoma. Her parents, James Arnold Wood and Ruby Florence Kelsoe. She was the oldest of 5 children. James Arnold Jr. (passed in 1944), George (passed in 2022). Her living siblings, Cheryl Patrick and Michael Wood were beside her at the time of her passing.

Betsy graduated in 1949 from Lakeview High School in Oregon. June 4th, 2049 she married Jack Smith in Reno, Nevada. They settled in Central Point, Oregon. They were married for 57 years. Jack passed in June of 2006. Jack and Betsy had one daughter, Brenda Kaye Nelson who passed in June of 2013.

Betsy is survived by her 4 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. . Lori Lishan of Steveson, WA is the mother of Sebastian & Brenna. Rene Apodaca of Pasco, WA is the mother of Parker, Riley, Spencer and Sophia. Braden Latendresse of Brush Prairie, WA is the father of Austin, Josh, Hannah, Will and Bella. Jaci Latendresse lives in Vancouver, WA.

Besty was also a loving big sister, auntie and cousin to many. She loved her little dog Scooby, but also had a great love for 2 Yorkies, Kopi and Petia and a number of Golden Retrievers. Morris the cat was a long time companion, as well.

After retiring from Pacific Bell Phone Company in 1968, Betsy spent many years at her home in Central Point. She loved canning, crocheting, spending time with her many different pups, visiting family and friends and her grandchildren. Betsy enjoyed cooking her home-made Oklahoma-style cuisine. Betsy also enjoyed bluegrass music and watching her husband, Jack play his fiddle.

After her husband Jack passed, she moved to Southern Washington and lived with her daughter, Kaye and her husband Tom, until Kaye’s passing. She would spend the last number of years in Stevenson, Washington, close to her grand-daughter, Lori. Her last years, she enjoyed chocolate, coffee, watching Basketball, trips to the library and playing a lot of Yahtzee. Anyone who knew Betsy knows that she was always dressed fashionably and bright.

We will celebrate Betsy on Sunday April 23rd 11am at Memory Garden Chapel.
