Bruce Edward Nelson, of Central Point, Ore., died Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009. He was born Oct. 14, 1926, in Woodburn, Ore. Bruce graduated from the University of Oregon and later received his Doctorate in Education at Oregon State University. He taught for many years in the Medford School District, from the year that Hedrick Junior High opened. His enthusiasm for learning and care for his students touched many lives over the years. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jean, in Central Point, Ore.; his daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Greg Schultz, of Clarkston, Wash.; his son, Scott Nelson and daughter-in-law Margaret McGoldrick, of Ashland, Ore.; and three granddaughters, Elizabeth, Nicole and Emily Schultz. Bruce was a fine man, and we will miss him. Celebrations of Bruce's life will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 14, 2009, at Twin Creeks Crossing Retirement Center, Central Point, Ore.; and at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009, at Faith Lutheran Church, Coquille, Ore. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ACCESS Inc. or another local foodbank.
