Carolyn Kay Steck was born September 20, 1940 in North Platte Nebraska to Chauncey and Annabel Amstuz. Carolyn had lots of good memories growing up here with family, cousins and friends. A part of her heart was always in North Platte and she loved her red Nebraska shirt.
After graduating she went to nursing school for a year before marrying her sweetheart Donald L. Steck on June 14, 1959. They started their life together in the Denver Colorado area where they had 3 sons and one daughter.
In 1972 they moved to Medford Oregon and bought a house on Garfield. Not quite a year later they lost this house to fire. After selling the property, they bought a home on Howard Ave where they finished raising their 4 children.
At this time Carolyn went back to college to finish her nursing degree and became an LPN. She first worked at Rogue Valley Hospital and then later worked for the family practice of Michael Robinson in Central Point.
When the Oregon recession hit with all the lumber mills in town closing up, they eventually ended up going to Beaverton where she worked at OSHU. In 2000 she lost Don to cancer, but stayed there until she could retire and returned to her home in Medford. She volunteered with No One Dies Alone. Although it broke get heart to see people who had no one she said, "No on deserves to die alone!" And would hold their hand until the end.
Carolyn had a strong faith in the gospel of Jesus Christ. She grew up religious and joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the early 1980's. She loved to go to the temple weekly when she retired and did so until her health no longer allowed her to go.
Carolyn had dementia in her last few years of life and struggled with the loss of a lifetime of memories. She passed away at Farmington Square Memory Care in Medford Oregon with family by her side, holding her hand on February 24, 2024.
She is survived by a son Steven Steck - Medford Oregon, a daughter Donna (Troy) Connolly - Lehi Utah, sister Ellen (Terry) Waak - Nebraska, William "Bill" (Karen) Amstuz - Iowa, Harley (Karen) Amstuz - Nebraska. She also leaves behind 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents Chauncey & Annabel Amstuz, husband Donald L. Steck, sister Barbara Cooper, son Allen Steck, son Brian Steck and great grandson Luke Steck.
She will be deeply missed by all who loved her and called her friend. Her memory will burn strong in our hearts. For now we say goodbye, until we reunite again someday. Love you always!
