Charles William Gilchrist

Charles Chuck William Gilchrist of Central Point, Ore. passed away surrounded by family at his home Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at the age of 81.
Chuck was welcomed into this world in Eugene, Ore. January 31, 1932, by his parents, C. Cleo and Esther N. (Sneed) Gilchrist. Ten days later the family travelled by train to their home in Gold Hill, Ore.
As a youth he sold garden seeds, his hands tied fishing flies and landscaped many local gardens. In high school he excelled in track and field events and was part of the first graduating class of the new Crater High School.
His employment reflected his love of automobiles, as he acted as a wholesale parts representative for several dealerships in Oregon and Washington. Chuck enjoyed fishing and hunting, was an avid gardener, raised honey bees, and was always helpful to friends and family.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Frances; son, Joel (Barbara) Gilchrist, of Shady Cove, Ore.; daughter, Julie (Neil) Owen, of Hillsboro, Ore; four grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and two nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cleo and Esther; and son Eddie.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, July 20, 2013, at Memory Gardens, 1395 Arnold Ln., Medford Ore.
