Charles "Chuck" Alvin Nelson, Husband, Brother, Father, Papa, Great Papa, Teacher, Coach, and Hugger Extraordinaire passed away peacefully in Medford, Oregon surrounded by his family. He is now reminiscing with his first born daughter, Jacqueline who was waiting for him in heaven.
Chuck taught many about unconditional love, forgiveness, the importance of hard work and family. He taught how to pitch, hit and run. He taught how to give one liners like no one else and the importance of a great sense of humor. He is lovingly remembered by his children, Jeff Nelson of Eagle Point, Oregon, Jay and Lisa Nelson of Klamath Falls, Oregon and Crystal Nelson of Medford, Oregon, along with his 8 grandchildren and his 9 great grandchildren.
Chuck was born in Wakonda, South Dakota on July 15, 1936. He excelled in sports as a young adult and played football, basketball, baseball and track. He was a sharp dressed man and caught the eye of a young lady named Elly in 1952 and in his words "she wouldn't leave me alone". They married in 1957.
After years of coaching and teaching the love birds headed west to Klamath Falls, Oregon where they taught school. In 1978 Chuck traded his teaching hat for a cowboy hat and began ranching in Bonanza, Oregon.
In the late 80's Chuck & Elly sold the ranch and headed over to sunny Medford, Oregon. That is where Chuck found Senior Softball and became quite the baller in the industry. After many years of line drives Chuck retired from the sport in 2013.
Always a little stubborn and hard headed, Chuck wasn't ready to leave until he and Elly celebrated 60 years of marriage (they celebrated 60 years and 7 days), his last great grandchild was born and until he saw each of his children one last time.
A Celebration of Life for this incredible man is being held Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 2:30pm at the Ashland Hills Hotel.
