David Alan Reed

September 7, 1967 — October 27, 2020

David Alan Reed was born in Miami, Florida on September 7, 1967 to James and Laura Reed.  He grew up in Ashland, Oregon with his mom and sister and spent time with his Dad & Mom (step) and Brother (step) in Bend and Florida. After attending some college in Eugene, he moved to Portland to start his career and raise a family. He and his wife Sheila just celebrated their 25th Wedding Anniversary, and were making plans to renew their vows.
David enjoyed working for the Reed family in construction, and was very talented and could build a house from the ground up. He was so happy to have his son Matt work by his side, teach him some skills and was so proud of him. He adored his daughter Ashley, who is a gifted artist and has a gentle and kind hearted soul like her father.
David was willing to lend a hand to anyone that needed it, and could brighten a room with his smile. He was private and did not let on to how sick he was feeling. Shortly after returning home from several weeks in the hospital, he passed peacefully in his sleep. Sheila remembers him waking up in the night and telling her he loved her, and hugging her like no other time. And in the morning he was gone.
We are heartbroken over the sudden loss of David - Husband, Dad, Son, Brother, Uncle, Nephew, Cousin, FAMILY and FRIEND.  We are grateful for the time we had, and will cherish our memories. He is free from his pain and is in the stars above.
He is survived by wife Sheila, children – Matthew & Ashley. Dad & Mom – Jim & Jill, Sister -Bonnie, Brother -John Michael, Niece – Alicia, Nephews – Michael, Tommy & Travis, Brother in law – Rick, Sister in law -Stacey, Mother in law – Becky; Reed, Drew, Granville & Seal Families; and many friends from throughout the years. He is reunited with those that preceded him - his mom, grandparents, great grandparents and some of his best buddies.
The immediate family is still grieving our loss, and currently will not be having a memorial.  Please celebrate David – Dave, Dave Reed, Reed Man however you see fit – prayers, cheers, or play one of your favorite songs for him – loudly! He loved you and knows you loved him.
We would love for you to share a note about him, as it will be something for the family to treasure.
“Secret O’ Life” by JT
The secret of life is enjoying the passage of timeAny fool can do itThere ain't nothing to itNobody knows how we got to the top of the hillBut since we're on our way downWe might as well enjoy the rideThe secret of love is in opening up your heartIt's okay to feel afraidBut don't let that stand in your wayBecause anyone knows that love is the only roadAnd since we're only here for a whileMight as well show some styleGive us a smileIsn't it a lovely ride?Sliding down, gliding downTry not to try too hardIt's just a lovely ride
Now the thing about time is that time isn't really realIt's just your point of viewHow does it feel for you?Einstein said he could never understand it allPlanets a-spinning through spaceThe smile upon your face
Welcome to the human raceSome kind of lovely rideI'll be sliding downI'll be gliding downTry not to try too hardIt's just a lovely rideIsn't it a lovely ride?See me sliding downGliding downTry not to try too hardIt's just a lovely rideThe secret of life is enjoying the passage of time
