Donald Walter Jacobs

August 23, 1935 — November 12, 2020

Donald Walter Jacobs was born in Medford, Oregon on August 23, 1935 to Donald and Iva Jacobs, one of eleven children. He died peacefully at home on November 12, 2020, at age 85. He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia (Pat); three children, Cathy Matson, Danna Hammers (Mike), and Michael Jacobs; three grandchildren, Brian Hammers, Scott Matson (Meridith), and Lisa Willis; and four great-grandchildren, Adaline, Ella, Roman, and Eliana. Seven of his sisters and one brother preceded him in death. He is survived by two sisters, Lois McKenzie (Carl) and Carol Kosht (Randy).
Don graduated from Medford High School in 1953 and attended the University of Oregon, where he played football for the Oregon Ducks. He served in the National Guard for seven years. He married Pat on December 29, 1954, and Medford was their lifetime home.
Don was a contractor and built many homes, clinics, and churches. He was a skilled craftsman and volunteered his time after he retired in August 2001.
Don loved the Lord and was a faithful servant. He and Pat began raising their family in First Assembly of God Church. Later, they worshiped at Applegate Christian Fellowship for thirty-four years until his passing. He had a beautiful tenor voice and sang in duets and quartets. In his final years, he sang with Senior Moments and enjoyed being a part of the 55-Live senior group at ACF. Don played several instruments in his earlier years, including the tuba in a high school band called "The Hungry Five".
Don always enjoyed the outdoors. He loved fishing, hunting, and camping, and his family and friends have many memorable times spent at Southern Oregon lakes canoeing, water skiing, hiking, and motorcycle riding. He and Pat also enjoyed wonderful vacations in Europe, Alaska, and Cabo, and many trips with friends to the U.S. National Parks.
Don leaves a legacy of integrity, courage, and strength. He loved God, was devoted to his family, and is greatly missed. Until we meet again!
A celebratio of his life was held at Applegate Christian Fellowship on November 17, 2020. Interment is at Memory Gardens.
