Dorotha Pearce was born in June on Friday the 13th, 1913 to Floyd and Gladius (Fryer) Pearce in Eagle Point, Ore. Dorotha weighed 3 pounds at birth and the doctor didn't think she would make it! Dorotha passed away March 5th at her home, Morning Light Foster Home in Talent, Ore. Dorotha's grandfather, James J. Fryer was one of the founding fathers of Eagle Point.
Dorotha graduated from Eagle Point High School. In 1934 she married William H. Straus with whom she had two sons, Wayne in 1935 and Warren in 1939. During the Second World War, both Dorotha and Bill worked at Camp White. Dorotha also worked as a cook at Howard School. She war a long time member of Central Point Grange, Eastern Star and the Friend's Church. Bill Straus died in 1968. At that time Dorotha went back to school to earn her LPN license and she also learned then, at the age of 53, to drive a car.
Dorotha married Frank A. Knox in 1972 and they had many years of traveling together and enjoying retirement together. Frank passed in 2006.
Dorotha is survived by her two sons, Wayne and Warren, Warren's daughters, Jenni Goad and Laurie Skantze and Laurie's children, Mattias and Emilia. She is also survived by her stepdaughter, Mary Beth Bjornsen and her children and grandchildren.
A Private internment will take place at Memory Gardens Memorial Park, Medford, Ore.
