Dorothy L. Roberts, of Phoenix, was born to Julia M Blacketer, and Isaac Blacketer in Kansas City, Missouri, on October 2nd, 1924, and died peacefully with her daughter Linda Wood (Roberts) by her side, on July 5th, 2018 at 4:30 p.m., at the age of 93. She was the last of her 11 siblings to enter the gates of heaven.
Though she stood not more than 5’ tall, she was the most resilient woman. Besides being the longest living sibling of 12 children, she was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor sometime in her late 20’s and had surgery to remove it. Think about that for a moment…brain surgery in the late 40’s or early 50’s was nowhere near as advanced as it is today, yet she survived and was able to live such a full life.
The surgery did take a toll on her as she was paralyzed on the left side of her body. Doctors said she would never walk again, but that wasn’t acceptable to her! Over the course of time, with her stubbornness and the help of her husband, she did indeed walk again. Everyone loved taking her arm and helping her from place to place, listening to her stories about family, and just being in her presence made us all feel good. She ALWAYS had that sparkle in her eye and a sweet chuckle that came from deep inside her belly and will never be forgotten.
Dorothy married James Albert Roberts on June 24th, 1942. She is preceded in death by her husband James, two of her sons Jim and Larry. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Wood (Roberts) and her son Richard Roberts.
She truly loved her family, her 4 children, 13 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and countless number of great-great grandchildren with all her heart and they brought her tremendous joy. She is an angel, and she will be forever in our hearts.
"Our Angel"
