Earl C. was born April 15, 1930 in Carlyle, Montana to John and Ellen Northrop. He grew up on a cattle ranch along-side two sisters and eight brothers, a good lookin’ crew. It was on this ranch in the 1930’s that his parents gave him a never-quit, work ethic. He was not a dull guy . . . he also knew how to have fun. That caught the attention of a pretty gal named Audrey. Earl and his wife Audrey (nee Schmeling) were raised in the same area of western North Dakota/Eastern Montana. They married on May 13, 1950 and were blessed by the Lord with 68 years of marriage. Most of their married life was spent in Southern Oregon, primarily in Eagle Point, with their four children. Earl and Audrey were the owners of Northrop Gas and Save in White City where his service station provided fuel and maintenance to passenger cars and logging trucks in the community. Folks who stopped by “the station” knew Earl’s good humor and fairness, and that of his brother Perry and his son Rick. They were fun to be around. The family, many friends, and good customers chipped in to help the family business succeed. They also had a five-acre place on Barton Road in Eagle Point where his kids learned a little about ranching. He and Audrey were at the ball games when His kids, grandkids, and great grandkids suited up in the Eagles, Comets, Panthers, Saints, or Black Tornado uniforms. He cheered for just about every team in the “Valley” at one time or another. Earl and Audrey have been members of Gloria Lutheran Church in Central Point since 1964. Earl was a guy of quiet faith and he trusted the righteousness and mercy of Jesus Christ, the Savior of all people – Romans 1:17 “. . . the just shall live by faith.” Like his siblings, he was clever, imaginative, and funny. The needs of his wife and family were first and foremost for him. During his 88 years, he taught his family respect according to Exodus 20:12, “Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.”
He is preceded in death by his son Rick, his parents John Cyril and Ellen Northrop, his siblings John Milton Northrop, Max (Pauline) Northrop, Neil (Lois) Northrop, Shirley (Donald) McNeary, Russell Northrop, Richard Northrop, Daniel Northrop, and Ralph Northrop; his father-in-law and mother-in-law Ferdinand and Edith Schmeling; sister-in-law Geraldine (Greg) Maus; brothers-in-law Louis (Agnes) Schmeling, John (Violet) Schmeling, Volney (Azalea) Schmeling, Delton (Dorothy) Schmeling, Gordon (Carol) Schmeling, and Max (Esther) Schmeling; too early-departed nieces and nephews.
He is survived by his dear wife Audrey; children Andrew (Teresa) Northrop, Earline (Ronald) Ross, and Timothy (Naomi) Northrop; daughter-in-law Barbara Northrop; grandchildren Jennifer O’Connor (Tyson Wolfe), Kevin Ross, Sarah (Jeff) Walker, Matthew Northrop, Liza (Paul) Conover, Anna (Jeremy) Hawley, Noah (Maria) Northrop and Jonah Northrop; great-grandchildren Marissa (Bryce) West, Bailey O’Connor, Jake O’Connor, Tyren Wolfe, Elliot Walker, Sawyer Walker, Jadon Conover, Zoe Conover, Jeremiah Hawley, and Sophia Hawley; brother Perry (Nola) Northrop, sister Claudia (Ron) Peterson; sister-in-law Sue Northrop; many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Kindly dedicate any Gifts-in-Remembrance to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church 745 N 10th Street in Central Point, Oregon.
