Eleonora Ozasek Rutter, 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 16, 2018 in her home at Veranda Park in Medford Oregon. Elli, or Oma as she was known to many, was born October 10, 1931 in Kohlgrube, Austria to Anton and Johanna Ozasek. She moved to the United States in 1954 as a surgical nurse on visa to work in Medford, Oregon. There she met and married Paul T. Rutter, DO on September 1, 1960. He passed away in 1984, and she never remarried.
She is survived by her three children: son Herbert Anton of Jacksonville, Florida, daughter Elli Marie of Salt Lake City, Utah and Paul David (Kim) of Medford, Oregon; granddaughter Ashlee (Jim) Eskelsen and great grandchildren Nora and Cooper of Layton, Utah; grandsons Mike (Amber) Rutter and great grandson Braxton of Eugene, Oregon and Drew Rutter of Salem, Oregon; and niece Inge (Larry) Gruber of Hawaii.
Elli was a long time resident of the Rogue Valley. She and her husband Paul built, owned, and operated Crater Osteopathic Hospital in Central Point, Oregon. The doors opened on the hospital in May of 1960. It was a small hospital with an emergency room, but it served the community well.
Her family was first and foremost her focus and joy. She supported her children growing up and more recently her grandchildren in their sports and musical endeavors by attending many football and baseball games, swim meets and band concerts. She always was one of the loudest on the sidelines cheering them on. Everyone knew who Oma was!
She was also a valiant member of the LDS church and longed to go each Sunday, even to her dying day. She would light up as the hymns played, probably remembering her husband who was a concert level pianist. He would always fill the home with music, both on the organ and piano.
Some of Eleonora’s hobbies included scrapbooking, knitting/crocheting, and gardening. She loved documenting all of her family history and family memories in numerous scrapbooks as well as knitting and crocheting baby blankets and outfits for family and members of her church for their newborns. She was also well known for her Christmas cookie plates she delivered around the valley to friends every year, especially her Rice Krispie Treats. They were the favorite of the grandchildren, so much so that they were asked for at birthdays instead of cake! She took pride in her yard and always made sure it was filled with the most beautiful flowers every spring. She enjoyed many summer days out in her flower filled yard with her family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 26, 2018 ath the LDS Medford Oregon Stake Center building, 2900 Juanipero Way. Public viewing prior from 9:30-10:30 am. Graveside dedication and burial at Memory Gardens Memorial Park, 1395 Arnold Lane, Medford following the service.
