Esther L. Hodge was born in Cascade, Idaho to Joseph Hendrick and Mary Hendrick (Antosh) and passed away in Medford, OR at the age of 89.
Esther grew up and attended school in Klamath Falls, OR and graduated from Klamath High. She married Merle Hodge on August 16, 1941 in Anchorage, Alaska. They moved back to Klamath Falls in 1942, when WWII broke out. They lived in Klamath Falls until 1961, when they moved to Medford, where they lived every since. Merle passed away in 1996.
Esther's first job was waitressing for her Mom, who made moonshine whiskey to support her family during prohibition. She tells stories of serving drinks to the mayor and chief of police. She was primarily a mother and homemaker and raised two children. Judy and Steve Hodge.
Esther was a cat lover. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Europe with an occasional trip to a casino. She was always up for any social get together. She was in a women's bowling league that included wearing leopard skin leotards and bee hive hairdos. Her motto was, "Let's do something, even if it's wrong."
Esther survived her brothers, Frank & Stan and she is survived by her brother, William "Sonny" Hendrick; her two children, Judy Glidden and Steve Hodge; six grandchildren, Allan & David Culp, Kyle, Stephanie and Christian Hodge, Elena (Hodge) Borngasser and 2 Great Grandchildren, Anthony and Samantha Borngasser.
A viewing will be held from 3pm-7pm Friday, August 27, 2010 at Memory Gardens Mortuary. A graveside service will be held at Memory Gardens Memorial Park and Mortuary, 1395 Arnold Lane, Medford at 1:00p.m., Saturday, August 28, 2010.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Southern Oregon, 2910 Table Rock Road, Medford, OR. A gathering at residence will be held after the service.
