Hazel Lucille James, 89, passed away Sunday, August 28, 2011. Hazel was born in Medford, Ore., on January 21, 1922 to Francis and Irene Dressler. Hazel had three sisters and four brothers.
She graduated from Medford High School in 1939 and met her husband of 70 years, Chester L. James, on graduation night at a Medford United Methodist Church youth social. They were married two years later in Reno, Nev., and shortly afterward moved to Portland, Ore., to work building Liberty Ships for the war effort. At the end of the war, they moved back to Medford where they have lived since.
Hazel has been an active member of the United Methodist Women for many years where she enjoyed many activities with her close friends. Her hobbies were gardening, sewing, crafting, and making fur teddy bears.
Hazel is survived by her husband, Chester James; son, Harley (Sherrie) James; grandson, Matthew (April) James; and two grandsons, Logan and Corey.
She was preceded in death by her son, Rocky James; and grandson, Forrest.
A memorial service was held at the Medford United Methodist Church, 607 West Main Street, Medford, OR 97501, on Saturday, September 3, 2011, at 2:00 p.m., Rev. John Tucker presiding. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.
