Jerome Charles Berman

Jerry Berman passed away on February 3, 2012, at Horton Plaza. He was born on February 11, 1922, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Jack and Katherine Berman
He spent his childhood in Latonia Kentucky and Cincinnati. He served in World War II as an Army Master Sergeant, Quartermaster Corps, in Italy and North Africa. He returned in 1945 and married his fiance, Shirley Brown. Jerry and Shirley celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on December 16, 2011.
Jerry worked as a shoe buyer in Cincinnati, Ohio; Akron, Ohio; Jasper, Alabama, and Jacksonville, Florida. In 1978 he bought a small department store, which Jerry and Shirley operated until retirement in 1984, when they moved to Medford to be within a day's driving distance of their grandchildren.
Jerry loved golf, gardening, and books. He volunteered at Rogue Valley Medical Center and participated in the SMART program. He was an accomplished oil painter.
He is survived by his beloved wife Shirley Berman of Medford; his son Steven Berman (Holly) of Portland, Oregon; his daughter Carol Berman of Tiburon, California; his grandchildren Emma Michel (Brett), Daniel Berman, Martha Harris, Jack Harris, and Eva Harris and his Brother, Harvey Berman of North Miami Beach, Fla. He was preceded in death by his son Marc Berman.
All of Jerry's many friends are welcome at a celebration of his life on Sunday, February 19, at 9:30 a.m., at Horton Plaza, 1122 Spring St., Medford.
