ln the morning hours of September 3, 2013, John George Dentone passed away peacefully with his family by his side. John was born March 4, 1928, to Giuseppe and Maria Dentone in Ft. Stockton, Calif. On May 23, 1953 he married Ruth Cash in Reno, Nevada.
He served in the U.S Army during World War ll and the Korean War from 1946 to 1956. In 1961, John and Ruth welcomed their only child, John Anthony Dentone, in San Leandro, Calif. in 1969 the family moved to the Rogue Valley. As a family, they enjoyed many fishing trips at Howard Prairie Lake and visiting the Oregon coast. John retired from Southern Pacific in 1983.
After John retired, he enjoyed traveling to ghost towns, National Parks and Jackpot, Nev., with his truck and travel trailer. His love for fishing started as a young boy, when he was often caught skipping school to go fishing. He has fished from British Columbia to Key West, Fla., and all waters in between. He spent a lot of time in his garden and green house, which resulted in gorgeous flowers surrounding his home. John was a big part of his great-grandchildren's lives, attending many football and baseball games, and school plays with his camera in hand.
John is survived by his son, John (Peggy) Dentone; grand-daughters, Ginny (Josh) Pettigrew, and Donna (Floyd) Turnbull; brothers, Luigi (Joan), and Joseph Dentone; great-grandchildren, Mia, Logan, Tyler, and Toby. John is preceded in death by his father and mother; wife, Ruth Dentone; and sister, Ester Rodgers.
