Juanita M. Sutton

May 24, 1933 — April 5, 2013

Juanita (Nita) May Sutton of Central Point, Ore., passed away Friday, April 5, 2013 at Hearthstone Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Medford, Ore.

She was born May 24, 1933 in Tonasket, Wash. to Charles and Hazel Anderson, the sixth of eight children. She married her sweetheart Eloy Sutton February 18, 1951. After graduating high school the young family lived in the Tonasket area until 1953 when they moved to Central Point.

Nita was a full-time homemaker raising three sons. She was a huge supporter of all three of the boys in whatever sport or activity they were involved in, as well as PTA. She was a 10-year member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce and a founding member of the Central Point Jayceettes. Nita hosted many Little League and Babe Ruth out-of-town teams during tournament time. They became her "other sons." She was also an avid spectator at her grandsons' sporting events.

For many years Nita was an avid bowler on several leagues. She bowled in city, state, and national tournaments. Nita loved playing cards, cribbage, and many board games, but her true love was playing Bunco for the last 30+ years with some of her best girlfriends. She loved being outside working in her beloved roses. Nita was well known far and wide for her cooking but especially her cookies and poppy seed cakes.

Her family, including grandchildren and great-grandchildren, gave her much joy. And the biggest joy came when she could share family times at the annual Hazel's Brood Reunion which has been going on for the last 42 years.

Nita is survived by her sons Patrick Sutton (Kathy Hoober) Medford, Ore., Ron Sutton Oakridge, Ore., and Ed Sutton (Debi) Medford, Ore.; sisters Jermaine Brugh, Washougal, Wash., Genon Pickering, Tonasket, Wash.; brother Sid Anderson, Omak, Wash.; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, way too many to count, and of course, her beloved dog Lucy and cats Skyler and Bootsie.

Juanita was preceded in death by her husband, Eloy Sutton; brothers, John Anderson, Howard Anderson, and Bill Anderson; sister, Alice Grey; and grandson, Tim Sutton.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 20, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Ascension Lutheran Church, 675 Black Oak Drive, Medford. Pastors Doug Vold and Everett Cade will be co-officiates. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Tim Sutton Memorial Scholarship Fund at Mercy Flights, Inc. 2020 Milligan Way Medford, Ore. 97504.
