Mable O'Dell Carter passed away Tuesday, April 27, 2010 with loving care present. She was born April 20, 1914 in Munden, Kas. to Fred and Etta Kasparek. She moved with her parents to Republic, Kas., where she attended elementary and high schools. She was a star player on the girls basketball team in high school and in recent years an avid fan of the Portland Trailblazers. A highlight of her life was attending one of their games in Portland with a grandson , Geoffrey Reader.
On September 1, 1932 she married Glenn "Bud" O'Dell in Concordia, Kas. He preceded her in death in 1988, after 55 years of marriage. She married Roy Carter in 1993, who preceded heer in death in 2001. Also preceding here are her parents, a brother, Glenn Kasparek and a daughter, Irene Ramirez.
She lived in California and Idaho before moving to Oregon in 1958. She worked for J.C. Penny's in Idaho and Oregon. When Sears opened their Medford store, she went to work in their credit office until retiring.
Mable enjoyed writing poetry, playing cards, reading and dancing. She was a singer and first sang on the radio at the age of 10. As a member of the Central Point Senior Center, she sang with a group from the Center at nursing homes for 15 years.
Surviving her are a daughter, Glenna Gaylene Reader; son-in-law, David Reader of Medford, Ore. a sister, Bernice Anderson and a niece, Phyllis Fye in Utah; 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
She attended New Beginnings Church, 5889 Hwy. 62, Central Point, Ore. and friends and relatives who wish to remember her may make donations to the church.
At her request, no services will be held. Internment will be a Memory Gardens Memorial Park Mausolem.
