Margaret Kolkemo, 90, was born July 25, 1920, in Talent, Ore., to parents, George and Grace Galbraith. She passed away peacefully at Cedar Lanes Foster Home with her family at her side.
Margaret (Jean) was a graduate of Talent High School in 1938. She went to college for two years, took business courses and became a legal secretary. She also worked for the Jackson County Voters Board for years.
Margaret met her beloved husband, Lawrence, at a ballroom in 1941, and it was love at first sight. They married when Lawrence came home from the War on Sept. 25, 1945. They had 49 wonderful years of marriage, and they were best friends always holding hands. They had one son, Robert Kolkemo, and one daughter, Janet Bohn.
The first and foremost love was her husband, Lawrence, her two children, her six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Margaret's interest were dancing with her husband, camping, fishing, gardening, and making wonderful chocolates to give to family and friends. She also enjoyed going to Hyatt Lake with her family, crossword puzzles, reading every word and page of the Mail Tribune, and last but not least, her Portland Trailblazers basketball team.
Margaret is survived by her children and grandchildren. Margaret was "Jeannie" with the light brown hair to her husband, "Mom" to her children, "G-ma" to her grandchildren, and "Jean" to the rest of her family and friends.
A viewing will be held at Memory Gardens from 10 to 10:45 a.m. on Friday, April 1. Her service will follow at 11 a.m.
