August 7, 2017 Heaven welcomed a new angel. The matriarch of our family Marjorie J Peterson went to dance once again with her one true love Karl. Just five months short of her 100th birthday. She was the heart of the Peterson Clan. Her most prized possession was her family.
Born January 30, 1918 in Chicago she spent her childhood there with her parents and siblings. At age 14 met her one and only love Karl when he smiled and winked at her from the risers while singing with the church choir. Though older he was so smitten with her beauty and grace he waited four years to begin courting her. They fell deeply in love and married May 7, 1938 two years after their courtship began.
Marge or "Patsy" as he lovingly referred to her went on to have two children. Their firstborn daughter Judy Peterson-Griggs, who preceded her mother in death and their son Thomas or "Tommy the little hooligan." She later became a grandmother to six and three more when Tom remarried. Over the years she was blessed with loving great grandchildren and great-great grandsons. Karl and Marge spent a portion of their married life in Chicago until Karl was transferred to Texas and later California where he passed in the 80's. While in California Marge raised her two children and worked as a salesclerk for the Capwell's Department Store. A treat for all when her grandchildren would visit her at work and get to have lunch in the employee cafeteria, after introductions all around. Family memories consist of many dinners at her house. She was the quintessential hostess with her dress, apron, and pumps moving gracefully around the kitchen. Adults with their Manhattans and the kids gathered loudly around the picnic table or dancing to "Cecelia" family meals were perfect. When you went to Grandma's house you were always sure to have Captain Crunch, Popsicle's, fudgesicle's as well as a great meal with lots of love and laughter.
Four years ago our dreams came true when Marge decided to move to Oregon to be with her son and family. While hesitant at first, since she was quite shy, she ended up making some wonderful friends and was warmly welcomed into the Pioneer Village Family. She enjoyed her dinners with Mary and Althea and let us not forget how much she loved Friday Wine Socials, particularly when there was live music! With all the great times she had at the Village her favorite by far was the yearly Luau, Dressed in her Hawaiian print shirt, flower in her hair, and lei around her neck she was always escorted by her granddaughter and great-granddaughters. She was in her element with a Mai Tai in hand proudly introducing her family to every person in attendance.
When she was not being the Belle of the ball she enjoyed her crossword puzzles, always doing them in ink, watching Hallmark movies, Blue Bloods, she thought Tom Selleck was quite handsome, and of course Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. She had such a knack for solving the puzzles and was always amazed at how much her "Sonny" knew during Jeopardy.
Some of her favorite memories were her trips to Hawaii with her mother Luella, She would tell stories that made you feel as though you were there. The description of the ocean breeze, aroma of the tropical flowers, luaus and of course the nightly cocktail were just part of what she loved during her island adventures.
Everyone who knew Marge loved her, she was truly a kind hearted, yet slightly sassy woman who will be missed but never forgotten. Marge is survived by her loving "Sonny" whom she never stopped worrying about and was lucky enough to be with her in the end. In addition she is survived by grandchildren and great-grandchildren, She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband, daughter, two grandsons, and one great grandson.
Services will be held Saturday August 19, 2017 at 1-2:45pm at Memory Gardens on Arnold Lane in Medford with a reception and Memorial gathering in the Bistro at Pioneer Village in Jacksonville from 3 to 5pm. In lieu of flowers Marge would appreciate donations to any charity in her name. Some of her favorites were the Wounded Warrior's, St, Jude's, Children's Miracle Network and the American Cancer Society.
Each time we see a butterfly we will know that you are here. So until we meet again we will remember that death leaves a heartache no one can heal but love leaves a memory that no one can steal. You will be forever in our hearts.
