Sandra Nelson Walters
Sandra Nelson (Ball, Johnson) Walters passed away March 28, 2021 at Providence Medford Hospital in Medford, Oregon with family members at her bedside. Sandra was 94 years of age. She was born March 10, 1927 in Douglas, Arizona to Gustav Nelson and Mary Frances Mullen Nelson. Sandra was just moving to her new residence in Jacksonville, Oregon from her former residence in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico at the time of her death.
She met Bobby Ball as a student at Phoenix North High School and was married February 26, 1944 to Robert Kay ‘Bobby’ Ball. While living in Phoenix, Robert Jeffery, Lon Harmon and Teresa Kay Ball were born. After Bobby died of injuries sustained in a midget racing accident in early 1954, Sandra married Roy T. Johnson MD in Sterling, Colorado. In July 1955, Roy Travis Johnson III was born in Denver, Colorado. In 1982 she married John Walters in Sutter Creek, California. During her life, Sandra lived in Phoenix, Denver, Grand Island, NY, Sterling, Colorado, Sutter Creek, California, Trout Lake, Washington, Portland, Oregon and San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.
Sandra was a fine artist, graphic artist, architectural designer, world traveler, gourmet chef, retail merchant, entrepreneur, flower gardener, visionary, horsewoman, philanthropist, life coach, dancer and music lover.
In the mid-Sixties, Sandra owned Ptarmigan Ranch located near the headwaters of the north fork of the Williams Fork river in Leal, 25 miles south of Parshall, Colorado, a cow-calf summer cattle operation, she ran an equestrian summer camp for girls at the Ptarmigan Ranch for several years.
She lived her life sharing her love and strictly adhered to and expected others to adhere to the very tenets of honesty, fairness, respect for all human beings and truth.
She is survived by three sons: Robert ‘Jeff’ Ball Greeley, Colorado, Lon H. Ball, Trout Lake, Washington and Roy ‘Travis’ Johnson III, Medford, Oregon; 16 Grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her three husbands, her daughter, Teresa, and four grandchildren.
Private memorial services will be held at a future date in northern Arizona.
